* Shanghai to Claim World’s Tallest Building by 2007

It will soar 492 metres into the sky

Six years behind schedule and now just a big hole in the ground. Shanghai’s World Financial Centre will nonetheless claim the title of the world’s tallest building by the end of 2007.

With a gaping hole near its top, the 100 billion yen ($961.5 million ) steel and glass edifice will soar 492 metres –high Jinmao Tower – currently China’s tallest-and the new-age Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Some 200 workers scurry around the 30.000 square-metre site, and another 3000 will appear once work on the superstructure begins.
