* Emaar – going from strength to strength

A joint venture between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and Kuwait Finance House will see the creation of 13
man-made islands over 20 sq km of sea and desert on the coast of Bahrain.

Called Durrat Al Bahrain, it is the Kingdom’s largest planned luxury residential and resort city and will feature
2,000 villas, 3,000 apartments, community facilities including schools,
mosques and health centres, sports and leisure facilities, an 18-hole golf course and a promenade featuring a marina and
commercial facilities as well as shopping areas, restaurants and cafes.
It is anticipated that the US$1.2 billion project, to be completed by late 2009, will, at full capacity, accommodate more
than 30,000 permanent residents in addition to some 4,000 visitors a day.
By early 2007 it is hoped that the first phase, comprising 390 villas on three islands – two Atoll islands and one Petal
island, so named to reflect their size and design – will be complete.
A total of five petal islands, arranged in a 1,165m radius circle, will feature in the final concept with a Hotel Island at the
centre. A circular bridge will link the petal islands with crescent Atoll islands.
