* Al Sharq – setting new standards

The launch of the largest and most diverse theme park resort in the Middle East marks the Saudi-based Al Sharq Group’s
first foray into the UAE.
The AED 7 billion, eight million sq ft Aqua Dunya resort will be right in the heart of Dubailand with further expansion
to follow.
“Aqua Dunya will set new standards for international family entertainment in the Middle East,” said Steven Tight, CEO for
Aqua Dunya, whose credentials include 17 years of international theme park development experience with the Walt
Disney Company.
Central to the resort will be the world’s largest cruise ship, The Desert Pearl, containing a climate-controlled indoor
element of the theme park and a 330- stateroom luxury hotel with authentic turn-of-the-century design.
Other features of the resort and residential community include the Aqua Dunya theme park – incorporating 36 wet
and dry rides plus three exotic adventure islands, a traditional souk and port district, a conference centre, 170 vacation apartments and 3,400 residential apartments.
Future development will include a second theme park, two more themed resort hotels, a golf course and expansions
to the Aqua Dunya theme park, port district and vacation apartments.
“Aqua Dunya brings something for everyone – world class family theme parks and resorts, vacation apartments for
visitors to use as a base to explore all of Dubailand and Dubai, and unique residences in a prime developing region of
the new Dubai,” said Ali Sulaiman Al Shehri, chairman of Al Sharq Development.
The Aqua Dunya theme park resort will be managed by Jumeirah properties, a member of Dubai Holding.
Aqua Dunya is one of three signature mega projects being launched in the UAE by Al Sharq Development whose portfolio
also includes The Light House Resort and Residence on the crescent of the Palm Jumeirah and the 70-storey Al Sharq Tower
designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
