$881m Burj Dubai contract

Ras Al Khaimah has awarded a construction contract worth $24.5m to Convrgnt Value Engineering to build 116 chalets, which is part of expansion plans for the RAK Hilton Beach Club. The chalets will be built next to the existing Hilton Beach Club at Al Marid in Ras Al Khaimah, and are due to be finished in 12 months.

The agreement was signed by Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Finance Department, and Ashwani K Sharma, Managing Director of Convrgnt at the Ruler's Court here. Also present on the occasion were Jihad Quzmar, Legal Advisor, Government of Ras Al Khaimah and Mohab Ghali, General Manager of Hilton Ras Al Khaimah.

The overall expansion plan for the RAK Hilton Beach Club would see the setting up of a new hotel with 316 units, including 200 rooms and suites apart from the 116 chalets. The construction of the chalets will be completed in 12 months.

Speaking after the signing in ceremony Sheikh Faisal said that Ras Al Khaimah was witnessing tremendous growth in the tourism sector which necessitated creation of more facilities and addition of new hotels. He said that the new project would add to the existing facilities at the RAK Hilton Beach Club and would make it an attractive destination for tourists. 'New projects in the tourism sector would help to substantially promote RAK as a leading tourist destination in the region', he added.

The chalets will be set in a landscaped area featuring private gardens and will offer outstanding facilities. The hotel project will be offered for tender in two months. Atkins is the consultant for the project and the hotel will be managed by Hilton International.
